Celebrating National Nutrition Week at Oakbank Care Home

Oakbank Nutrition Week

At Oakbank Care Home, we always look for fun and engaging ways to promote healthy lifestyles. To celebrate National Nutrition Week, we embraced a colourful and nutritious challenge! Each day from the 2nd of September, we focused on a different colour and included fruit and vegetables of that colour in our meals. Our residents enjoyed creating delicious daily smoothies, choosing from a variety of fruits and vegetables that matched the colour of the day.

Our Colourful Week

🍓 Monday: Red

🍏Tuesday: Green

🍋Wednesday: Yellow

🍇Thursday: Blue/Purple

🍊Friday: Orange

Every day, we paired our meals with a fruit and veg-themed activity, ranging from quizzes and bingo to a scavenger hunt and a fun “What’s Your Fruit Name?” game. Our goal was to promote healthy eating, encourage residents to try new fruits and vegetables and bring a bit of fun to our mealtimes.

Dressing the Rainbow

The week was a hit with both residents and staff. Our chef prepared delightful meals that matched the theme, while the residents eagerly selected ingredients for their smoothies. Julie, one of our staff members, really got into the spirit by dressing in the colour of the day, and Margaret Ann added to the fun with her quirky fruit and vegetable headbands.

Fruit Fridays

One of the most exciting outcomes of the week is that the residents loved the smoothies so much, we’ve introduced Fruit Fridays! From now on, we’ll continue this lovely tradition of making smoothies together, adding a little healthy fun to the end of the week.

At Oakbank Care Home in Crieff, we love trying out new activities that promote wellbeing and encourage our residents to try new things. Our recent National Nutrition Week is just one example of how we encourage engagement, creativity, and a healthy lifestyle, recently we've also enjoyed a Go for Gold Games arranged by our wonderful Wellbeing Team.
