Chicks and Celebrations

It’s been a fabby month here at Oakbank, and two of the highlights of the pat few weeks have been watching our tiny chicks take their first steps to rolling out the red carpet for our very own Oscars.
Hatching Chicks at Oakbank
This month, we took part in the Living Eggs Programme, and what a wonderful experience it was! We welcomed ten little eggs, snug in their incubator, and over the course of a few days, we watched in amazement as they slowly began to hatch. Seeing the tiny cracks appear, followed by the first wobbly movements, was absolutely lovely.

Once they hatched, the chicks moved into their cosy, heated pen, where they quickly found their feet—quite literally! Our residents loved watching them fluff up, stretch their wee wings, and start to explore. There was plenty of time for cuddles and gentle handling, and the chicks certainly enjoyed all the attention.
One of the loveliest parts of the experience was sharing it with the children from Ardvreck Nursery. They were so excited to meet the chicks, and the residents had a great time chatting with them and helping them hold the tiny bundles of fluff. It was a joy to see different generations coming together over something so simple and heartwarming.

After two weeks of being spoiled with love, the chicks left for their new home on a free-range farm, where they’ll grow up happy and healthy. It was bittersweet saying goodbye, but what a privilege it was to be part of their first few days in the world.
Lights, Camera, Action – The Oakbank Oscars!
On 5th March, Oakbank transformed into a glittering Hollywood venue as we celebrated our very own Oscars. Residents and staff got dressed up for the occasion, and we made sure they arrived in style, with ‘posh escorts’ leading them to the event.
As they entered, they were greeted by the ‘paparazzi’ (our enthusiastic team with cameras at the ready!) before stepping through gold glitter curtains into the main event. With a glass of prosecco in hand, the residents took their seats, ready for an evening of fun, laughter, and a few emotional moments.

The highlight of the night was the personalised awards ceremony, where each resident was presented with their very own Oakbank Oscar by Margaret Ann. Speeches were made, a few tears were shed, but most of all, there were beaming smiles all around. Many residents said they felt like true VIPs, and the garlands they received were worn with pride for the rest of the day.

It’s moments like these that make Oakbank such a special place to live. Whether it’s welcoming new life into the world or celebrating the wonderful people who call Oakbank home, we always love finding ways to bring joy, laughter, and a little bit of magic to our residents' days. If you'd like to see some lovely videos of our chick then head over to our Facebook page or for more information on how we help our residents stay busy and active get in touch, we'd be happy to arrange an informal chat over a cup of tea.
