Crieff has a history dating back several hundred years, since 1690, when the River Earn was bridged. Crieff became the site of Scotland’s first public lending library and the town’s growth and wealth stemmed from its great communication links both to the Highlands and the Lowlands. By 1700, herds of Highland cattle from across Western and Northern Scotland were driven along the roads towards the cattle markets or trysts within Crieff. From then, each year up to 30,000 cattle arrived on foot for sale within the town.
Today, Crieff is a modern, busy and prosperous town with a range of accommodation, shopping centres, restaurants and other attractions.
